Host: Tom Allen Guest: Chellie Campbell author of "The Wealthy Spirit: Daily Affirmations for Financial Stress Reduction" Our Innate Power to Change Tom: I’m Tom Allen and I hate debt. I invite you to make the decision today to join with me in living a debt-free and prosperous life. You are a powerful person; you can take a bad situation, like being in debt, and turn it into a good one. Change of this type happens one day at a time and there to help make the change easy is Chellie Campbell author of the Wealthy Spirit. She created the Financial Stress Reduction Workshop and today she’s going to help you reduce your financial stress and create a wealthy spirit. Chellie, welcome, what led you to create the Financial Stress Reduction Workshop and write The Wealthy Spirit? Chellie: Thanks Tom. It’s great to be here. What led me to create the workshop was that I owned a business management firm. I worked with a lot of people handling their money I had thirteen employees at one time in my business and we had many, many clients and it seemed no matter what their income level people were having difficulty and stress around money. So even if you doubled your income you would still be stressed because there’s always more things to buy upgrades to your house and your car and your living style and all of that. So I started giving people tips in my business on how to reduce their stress and relax and make more money and have more time off to play and have fun at the same time. And three people in the same week said you should be teaching this, and I thought, hmm, maybe I should. Tom: Yeah, sometime it pays to listen to what people tell you and listen to advice from the Universe, so to speak. Chellie: Well that’s what I think it when three people who don’t know each other give me the same message in a short period of time I think it’s a message form the Universe Tom: Yes. You mentioned something I found interesting there that is that quite often if we have more money we wind up with more financial stress, I can see two different angles I’d like to talk about here. Chellie: Sure Tom: One is there’s underlying principles that lie with us that are really the fundamental reasons we have financial success and B, that a lot of people think that money creates problems therefore by not having money they’re subconsciously trying to avoid the problems but that really doesn’t work either. Chellie: No, I tell you what I’m fond of saying to people is that as you increase your ability and your money it doesn’t mean you won’t have problems but the quality of your problems will improve. Tom: Well, very good. Chellie: So give me those high class quality problems. that’s what I want. Tom: Well it certainly, I think that’s the way to go, arrive at your problems in style Chellie: Yes. But what you said was very important is that there’s an underlying consciousness that creates problems. And I think that’s true. When we’re fearful and were always worried about am I going to have enough to survive, am I going to have enough to pay my bills. No matter what your income level is that fear is always there. I even talked to a friend recently who is a multi-millionaire, has lots of assets and I said, “Well you must feel relaxed,” and she said no, “What if I lost them?” You see? Tom: Yes. Chellie: That fear is always there. Cause there’s not a stock that can’t lose its value, a home that can’t burn down. Tom: No kidding. Chellie: A job you can’t be fired from. There’s all those thing that happen in life we’re aware of the downsides and the pitfalls and they frighten us. The important thing is to not focus on that but focus on the good things in life and your ability to overcome obstacles, cause we’ve been doing that all our lifes. Tom: Isn’t that because really our true wealth lies not outside of us is not something we accumulate or acquire its something that we are. Chellie: See this is the big mistake. People are focused on how much money they have or the kind of car they drive or all of that. And let me be clear I think we should have all these abundant things. Tom: Yes. Chellie: I think they’re wonderful let’s have them. And we can’t say our security or our ability to survive is in those things. Our ability to survive and to create a life is in us. Tom: Yes and ultimately we’re all going to move on to the next life anyway so what we want to do is to make sure while we’re here we’re living with as much peace and prosperity within us as we can. Chellie: Yes Tom: One thing I want to talk about is the past. We often hear that those who do not learn from the past and bound to repeat it. But I also know we tend to, some people, now I was one who did this for a while, tend to get caught up in the past. But you on page 64 of your book, “The Wealthy Spirit” which if anyone out there hasn’t yet read I suggest very strongly that they pick up a copy of, you talk about getting past the past. Why is that so important? Chellie: Well because if we stick with what already happened we’re going be married to the problems we had or be worried about it. You can stick to the past as long as it’s a good happy past. Tom: OK. Chellie: I have a friend who’s a coach named Greg Mooers who said the most wonderful thing one day. He said, “Are you willing to give up all hope of having had a better past? Tom: Interesting. Chellie: Isn’t that good? You can’t change it, it was what it was. Let go of it. Move on. Today is today and today is beautiful and today is to be enjoyed. Let’s revel in today. Tom: Well what about the concept that perhaps you can change the past. Now you can’t actually change what happened but you can change how what happened affects you today. Chellie: Well I do agree with that. Actually I’ve heard of people going back and rewriting their past and making up a different past for themselves and decided to believe in that and if that makes them happy go for it. Tom: I think as long as it works. What we want to do is believe in what brings us value today. If your past wasn’t the way you’d like it and it’s negatively affecting you then it doesn’t hurt to rewrite it and make it better. But I think, and I’ll think you might agree with me, that the real thing we want to do is move on with the past set our eyes on the goals of the future but then live confidently today. Chellie: Yes. I think today’s the most important part. Echart Toll wrote a great book called “The Power of Now” also I have to tell you I got all that from Baba Ram Dass in the sixties with be here now. Tom: Be here now. Chellie: It’s all the same. This minute you know you have, next minute you don’t know you’ll be here even. Tom: That’s right Chellie: There’s no guarantee. Yesterday is already gone. One quote I really like is, “Yesterday is a cancelled check, tomorrow is a promissory note, today is cash in hand.” Tom: There you go. Chellie: I think we dwell a little too much on saving for the future too. All of this stuff about save and retire, everybody telling you that by the way is somebody who’s getting you to retire and save and invest in their product. We overdo that I think. Tom: I would agree. I think we can dwell too much on the past we can also dwell too much on the future. While it is important, I think, to save for the future. It’s more important that we, what we do today and how we live our life today. Chellie: I think so to. I think its absolutely good to save I would never say that it wasn’t a good thing. You don’t want to put everything towards the future you may not get to. Tom: Absolutely. But we’re going to talk in the next segment about counting your money. Chellie: Yes Tom: And why it’s important to keep track of what you have because obviously if we’re not keeping track we not holding on to any of it. When we come back we’ll be talking more with Chellie Campbell author of “The Wealthy Spirit” and creator of the Financial Stress Reduction Workshop. And I am going to have to apologize to you Chellie I’m going to be doing that in our next segment. Stay tuned. For more information on getting and staying out of debt visit IHateDebt.com.
