Debt Negotiation

Start Over Today

Host: Tom Allen
Guest: Colemann R. Cassel II from Start Over Today

Segment 4 A Brighter Future

Tom: I’m Tom Allen, and I hate debt. I invite you to make the decision today to join with me in living a debt-free and prosperous life. No matter what your present situation looks like, your future can be bright. But you must start over, and you should make that decision to start over—today. To help you do that is Coleman R. Cassel II, the CEO and financial strategist of StartOverToday.com. Coleman, I know the reason we’re here, the reason I’m here, the reason you’re here with me today, is not just to help people get out of debt, but to really make a change in their lives, a positive and dramatic change. What kind of changes, what kind of results, have you seen from folks who have gone to StartOverToday.com and gotten some help?

Coleman: Gee, we’ve seen pretty dramatic results. We’ve had people call in and write in who are suicidal, have no reason to live, who have completely turned it around and looked at life in a whole new perspective after dealing with us. When you call here, it’s a high-energy atmosphere. Everybody’s happy to work here—if they’re not happy to work here, they don’t work here! It’s voluntary! StartOverToday.com, just so you know Tom, and the rest of the world knows, is a whole new culture. We are different from anything you’ve ever seen before. If you come into StartOverToday.com, you’ll see we all wear blue jeans and bright blue shirts that say StartOverToday.com on them, and everybody has a smile on. If they don’t, they go home. And it’s not a punishment thing, but this is a high-energy business and we need to help people to get where they want to be.

Tom: So they have to be smiling, even if they’re doing most of their business over the telephone?

Coleman: Yeah!

Tom: Because I know you can hear a smile, even over the phone.

Coleman: You are who you are, and if I’m not wearing my smile right now, it’s probably because I’m a little bit nervous!

Tom: (laughs) Well, you gave a dramatic example. I know that I’ve have talked to folks who’ve had to hide the family guns because their spouse was in that suicidal state of mind, and I know this is extremely serious, that’s why I take it seriously. But I also know that you have to, maybe sometimes, like Norman Cousins (maybe people will know, some might not) was diagnosed with a terminal illness a number of years ago (he’s deceased now). What he did was he decided he was going to laugh at his disease, and he literally put on old Three Stooges and funny movies and laughed all day long, thus living a substantial period of time well beyond what the doctors expected. So in some senses, I think that you have to not take this too seriously, even though I know that it’s a serious subject. So what other kinds of results, positive results, or success stories have you seen?

Coleman: We turn people around every day. It’s so exciting to be around this environment and work here and be able to help people. We take people who are losing their homes, who are barely getting by, people who are replacing minimum monthly payments with meals—we run into this kind of stuff. And if we can enable somebody to get rid of just a little of debt, to be able to free up a lifestyle, to get themselves back, and that’s long-term, for the future. One thing we have here at StartOverToday.com are clients who are getting into programs and getting towards the end of programs, we give them a full 360 financial assessment and coaching. What we do is we go over their financial life with them and we find out where they are now. We need to know where they are now in 8 different categories, in terms of what they know, what financial education they’ve obtained, where they are for financial planning, where they are in their career, where they are in their income, what their expenses are, what their assets are, and what their debt and credit look like. So we do a financial wheel—we do a complete 360 on those eight areas, and we take those and find out where you are now and where you want to be, and we help you get to where you want to be. And we have a solution for all the things you need. Wherever you want to go, we can help facilitate that process.

Tom: So you will help me not only get out of debt, you will help me go beyond my debt, and put together a plan that will help me achieve my financial goals. Is that right?

Coleman: Exactly.

Tom: Well that is fabulous. Again, I’ve been very impressed with, and I will let everybody know that I didn’t know, the full breadth and depth of your financial services before you came on the show today. So I’m learning like everyone else, and I’m very, very impressed.

Coleman: Thanks, Tom.

Tom: And to kind of recap for me and everybody who’s listening, could you go over the types of services you have again?

Coleman: Perfect. We have many programs—let me think of them all. We can refer you to a bankruptcy attorney. We can refer you to a credit counseling company. We do debt negotiation, which is one of our most popular products. We can do credit repair. We can do vehicle refinancing. We can do home mortgages for first-time buyers and refinance. Then we get into financial coaching—where you want to be. We also do student loan consolidation and we have a great alternative for student loans. But our 360 Financial Assessment is something we take a lot of pride in, and getting down a budget, figuring out where you want to be, and then getting towards your goals. Most of our clients own homes, or if they don’t own a home, they want to get into a home, so mortgages is a big part of our business. Foreclosure prevention is a big part of our business. We have a lot of people who are on the cusp of losing their homes, and a home is a big part of who people are. If you are a first-time home buyer—

Tom: It’s your identity, yes.

Coleman: So if you lose that home, your finances, your marriage—a lot of things hinge on your residence, so we want to really work with people. Oh, and I failed to mention the tax recovery we do as well.

Tom: Oh yes, so many things to keep track of!

Coleman: Tax recovery is a major portion of our business.

Tom: That’s why I wanted you to go back over them. Fabulous. And again, I’m impressed by the fact that you’re not just talking about putting somebody in a program and forgetting them. That full 360 perspective that you have in all those different areas is important, because we are holistic beings and you cannot get out of debt by only focusing on debt. You need to focus on your life, yourself, creating a good identity for yourself, creating money management, looking at what’s coming in, looking at ways to make more money, looking at ways to save more money, and again, managing your money in a way that works FOR you as opposed to just doing what comes mindlessly because we’re handed a credit card in order to get a free t-shirt when we were 19 years old at college and have been using it ever since and don’t even remember why we’re using it, but we have to pay the bill every month.

Coleman: Yes. One thing we’ve realized here is that there are Band-Aids for everything, and we could put somebody into a mediocre program and make them feel good for 4-6 months, but we’re not into that. What we’re doing here is, we’d rather NOT have a client, than have a client fail because we got them into the wrong program. And so we lay it on the line everyday with our clients: “Hey, we feel this is the best option for you, and if you feel so gung-ho to do this or that, maybe we shouldn’t be doing business together because we want what’s best for you, and we know that 90% of our clients that do this will fail.” We hear many times, “Well I’m in debt settlement, and this other company will give me a 48-month program and they’ll lower my payment 90%” or something ridiculous, and we just say, “That’s right. But the statutes of limitations will come up and your lawsuits settle in—it’s just not going to work for you, and we can’t recommend that you do business with a company like that. We don’t want a Band-Aid solution; we want a lifetime client, we want to continually come back and have the client say, “Coleman, StartOverToday.com, my friendly financial strategist—these people looked out for my best interest regardless of how much money they did or didn’t make, they want me to become debt-free, they want me to turn my life around, they want me to succeed”, and that’s our main focus here.

Tom: So in order to do that, get all of your financial information together and, Coleman, one more time, the number to call:

Coleman: 800-251-1991.

Tom: I really appreciate you being on the show today. Again, I really learned a lot about StartOverToday.com, and I’m very impressed. If you have a debt problem, give them a call. Go to their website. Again, Coleman R. Cassel from StartOverToday.com—thanks for being on the show.

Coleman: Thanks for having me, I appreciate it.
